Octanol: colorless flammable liquid with special odor. It is soluble in 720 times of water and miscible with most organic solvents. 834 (20 / 20 ℃). The boiling point is 184 ℃. Melting point - 70 ℃. The flash point was 81.1 ℃.

Isooctanol is commonly known as octanol, product name: 2-ethylhexanol, 2-ethyl (- 1 -) hexanol, abbreviated as 2-EH, English alias 1-octyl alcohol; alcohol C-8; heptyl carbinol; n-caprylic alcohol; n-octanol; n-caprylic alcohol; octan-1-ol; caprylic alcohol; octanol; octyl alcohol; molecular formula: CH3 (CH2) 7OH. It is a colorless flammable liquid with special odor. Its relative density is 0.831, boiling point is 183.5 ℃, insoluble in water, and can be miscible with most organic solvents.

Use of octanol:

Octanol is mainly used in the production of phthalate esters and aliphatic ester plasticizers, such as dioctyl phthalate, dioctyl azelaic acid and dioctyl sebacate. It is respectively used as the main plasticizer and cold resistant auxiliary plasticizer, defoamer, dispersant, mineral dressing agent and petroleum filling agent of plastics. It is also used in printing and dyeing, paint, film, etc.

The physicochemical properties of octanol are as follows

Toxicity: low toxicity. The oral LD50 of rats ranged from 3200 to 7600 mg / kg. When using, pay attention to the airtight equipment, wear personal protective equipment, and keep the production site well ventilated.

The refractive index Nd (20 ℃) is 1.4316. 8 MPAs at 20 ℃. Vapor pressure (20 ℃) 48pa.

Quality standard GB 6818-86

Octanol may burn and explode in case of open fire, high temperature and strong oxidant. It can be stored and transported in galvanized iron bucket or tank car at normal temperature to prevent exposure to the sun.
